We provide an introduction to the propagation effects that alter the intrinsic radio emission of Sgr A*. This serves as background for a review of the temporal variability of the flux of Sgr A*. The proper motions from a 17-y experiment at the Very Large Array at 5 GHz and a shorter experiment at 8.4 GHz are presented and compared to that from the Very Long Baseline Array at 43 GHz. The possibility of real differences between experiments from refractive effects in the intervening medium is discussed.
