The idea that meteors might be some form of "electrical manifestation"
was a popular one for several decades near the end of the 18th century.
The great fireball of August 18, 1783, prompted one researcher, Charles
Blagden, to develop a detailed empirical model which described all
manner of meteoric phenomena.
