The Association's Historical Section was formed in 1930 under its first Director, Mrs J. Evershed, and continues to the present day. Unlike the conventional observing sections, it does not have a formal Section membership as such and has no set programme of work. The Director of the Historical Section effectively acts as a clearing house, open to all members of the Association, for inquiries of a historical nature.
