The paper considers the application of the time-dependent covariance matrix (TCM) to an analysis of transient impulselike geomagnetic events and their superpositions recorded at a single ground station. The manner in which the TCM is obtained is briefly described, and a complex hodograph of a simple model impulse is given. It is shown that it is possible to determine the vortex center direction with respect to the recording station, as well as the direction of its movement.
