Scientific paper

The paper describes an attempt to detect in QSP spectral lines of CO and CH molecules and a CI (3P0 - 3P1, lambda = 610 microns) fine-structure line, redshifted to millimeter wavelengths. Attention is given to five large, dense gas-dust complexes discovered before in the optical range and, in some cases, in the 21-cm H I line projected onto the quasars PKS 0528-250, PKS 1157+014, PKS 1129-021, PKS 0336-0142, and PKS 0458-02. An upper limit on the molecular column density is obtained. The possible detection of weak CO lines in two cases - PKS 1157+014 and PKS 1129-021 - is reported.
