It is shown that hyperbolic comets with direct motion cannot be
transferred to parabolic orbits with reverse motion by the attraction of
the terrestrial planets. This transfer requires that a comet pass at an
inadmissibly short distance from the planet's center: less than 2 km for
Mercury and less than 110 km for the earth.
