The Beagle2 program is particularly demanding due to the extremely tight constraints on mass, volume, power consumption and environmental conditions. This paper describes the solutions, against these constraints, for three of the key mechanisms within the lander. These are the instrument arm, the main hinge mechanism and the solar array hinge mechanisms. The design constraints for each are explained, followed by a detailed description for each of the mechanism types.
