: 1E 0657-56 is the hottest known cluster. A short ACIS exposure has also revealed that it has the most compelling (if not the only) example of a merger bow shock. The proposed additional long exposure will be used to derive the detailed temperature and pressure profiles across the shock front and the interface between the cool moving subcluster and the shocked gas.
