Scientific paper

We propose ACIS-S observations on two intermediate-age (10-600 Myr) brown dwarfs, PC 0025+0447 and 296A. We will establish a unified picture of X-rays from brown dwarfs, together with the recent discoveries of X-rays from young (~1 Myr) and old (~1 Gyr) brown dwarfs. The scientific objectives of our Chandra observations are (1) to search for any correlations of X-rays to other physical parameters; age, H alpha intensity, bolometric luminosity, and circumstellar disk, and (2) to extend the X-ray detection toward a lower mass star (M9.5), which is one step to a big challenge of searching for young Jupiter type planets using X-rays.
