The structure and strength of the magnetic fields of the Sun's active
regions were studied to obtain information for short term forecasting.
Intensity forecasts were then made using the information obtained on the
gradients of the magnetic fields between sunspots of opposite polarity.
A comparison of flare forecasting methods is presented.
