A satellite-disseminated time code using the GOES satellite provided by the NBS as a complement to the time and frequency services of WWV, WWVH, and WWVB is examined. The time code is referenced to the NBS time scale, giving coordinated universal time. The time code contains the satellite's current position for path delay calculations, and the time signals are relayed to the Western Hemisphere on a full-time basis. The time code is easily accessible, using small antennas, and the generation, satellite relay, and recovery of these signals are discussed. It is concluded that this system has advantages over the conventional HF and LF services, and the results obtained with commercial receiving equipment are described.
