An optical design of a phase-grating interferometer has been developed
for photoelectric observations of close visual binary stars. The phase
grating provides higher sensitivity than the usual amplitude grating.
With a 60-cm telescope, parameters have been measured for four double
stars whose components are separated by 0.32-0.62 arc seconds.
