The relation between mean pulse width and period predicted by the polar-cap model is consistent with the results of the 408-MHz pulsar survey. When this model is applied to data measured at other frequencies, the level at which radiation is generated in the pulsar magnetosphere is found to rise toward lower frequencies. The energy and density of the electrons in the emission regions are estimated.
