A method is developed to correct for nonuniform background fog levels in photographic photometry. This is done by modeling how an iris diaphragm photometer works, the shape of a star image, and the plate's response to background light. This easy method requires only an unmodified iris diaphragm photometer. Over a hundred plates have been measured using this procedure with good success. In addition, four plates with gross nonuniformity and a wide variety of conditions, are examined in detail. The method successfully corects the data to near what it would be if the plates had uniform background fog.
