We review the main observational characteristics of the known classes of X-ray pulsars: accreting magnetic neutron stars in High and Low Mass X- -ray binaries and Anomalous X-ray pulsars (AXPs). Theoretical models will be also briefly reviewed. Recent results obtained by multi- wavelength campaigns (in the radio, IR, optical and X-ray bands) will be reported and compared with respect to other classes of X-ray sources. We also report on timing/spectral studies recently carried out on the BeppoSAX observations of the AXP class. These data are used to characterise this enigmatic class of objects and the results compared with those obtained from standard X-ray pulsars and Soft Gamma Repeaters observed by BeppoSAX in the past. The results are discussed on the light of the proposed theoretical models for AXPs. Preliminary results obtained from Chandra observations of AXPs will be also presented.
