Infrared and submillimeter astronomical observations performed with balloon-borne instruments have produced major contributions to the understanding of many areas of astrophysics. A review of recent results obtained on the cosmic background radiation, galactic structure, star formation processes, the outer planets and the solar atmosphere is presented.
