The effects of atmospheric emission and absorption fluctuations on visible and infrared astronomical spectrophotometry are discussed. The running average and variance of emission and absorption spectra, and their relationships to the noise autocovariance are discussed. It is shown that the statistics are affected by integration time, interval between measurements and total length of observation time.
