Statistical estimators were applied to evaluate star clumping (apparent or real) at short distance scale (a few arcmin) and its influence on the overall probability that a star may be rejected by Space Telescope guidance sensors due to proximity of another star less than 1 arcmin and 0.5 magnitude distant. Four star fields of 313.5 sq area deg at galactic latitude 83, 50, -40 deg, complete up to the same photographic magnitude limit of 12.7, show clustering at distance scale 2 arc min, according to the nearest neighbor distribution. The strongest effect is detected at the north galactic pole where heterogeneity of the star density is doubtful. The variogram of the magnitude difference of the close binaries in this sample is related to angular separation.
