The authors present a new method for the determination of electron temperatures in high-excitation zones of planetary nebulae and active galactic nuclei. The present study uses the ratio of the O IV line at 25.87 μm to those near 1400 Å to calculate a temperature within the He III zone of NGC 7662. The observed fluxes yield a lower bound to the temperature of 14,730K. This is significantly higher than the O III temperature of ≡12,000K.
