Photometric scanning and spectroscopic observations of the central ridge of Orion Molecular Cloud 1 were made in the far infrared region from balloon altitude. The deconvolved map shows the BN-KL source and another source ≡1arcmin.5 to the south with ≡8×104 and ≡8×103 L_sun;, respectively, within the central 35arcsec. The southern source seems to be a dense condensation heated from the outside by the Trapezium and probably in a prestage of star formation. From spectra taken north of the BN-KL source it is concluded that water-ice (≡2×10-4 g cm-2) exists in the dense quiescent region to the northeast leading to a plausible picture of the distribution and composition of dust around the source.
