The introduction of an artificially increased gravitational force inside a homogeneous main sequence star is presently extended, in order to indicate that the increasing gravitational field of the inner parts of a star after the end of central hydrogen burning is the main effect causing the star to become a red giant. It is noted that this is not only true for lower massive stars, as was indicated by Hoeppner and Weigert (1973), but also for stars with higher masses.
