A flux density of 15 plus or minus 5 Jy has been detected at a mean wavelength of 1.5 mm from the dusty circumstellar envelope of the Mira N-type star, V Cygni. An interpretation of this high continuum emission is attempted on the basis of the near-infrared flux and of predicted flux in the far-infrared and millimeter regions, together with a comparison with the star IRC plus 10216. Shock waves and consequent mass-loss phenomena known to take place in the atmosphere of the Mira variable stars should support the assumption of a flarelike event.
