We analyze different pulsar models with different braking mechanisms that include gravitational radiation braking. We show how possible null (or positive) detection of gravitational waves from known pulsars by proposed advanced detectors of gravitational waves (as advanced LIGO and VIRGO) can help us to understand better the braking mechanism and the energetics involved in the spin-down of the pulsars.
