Based on its infrared (IR) colors from the Infrared Astronomical Satellite (IRAS), IRAS 04530-6916 has typically been classified as an asymptotic giant branch (AGB) star in the Large Magellanic Cloud. However, it shows little K-band variability (<0.2 mag) and is exceptionally bright for an AGB star. It has also been suggested that it might be an RSG based on its brightness. Recently, though, an optical spectrum has shown strong hydrogen emission lines as well as forbidden lines, implying that rather than an evolved star, IRAS 04530-6916 may be a young stellar object (YSO). Here, we present the 5-15 micron spectrum from the Infrared Spectrograph (IRS) on Spitzer. The IRS data show strong emission features from polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) superimposed on a silicate absorption feature. In the spectral data archives from the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO), this combination of features is found almost exclusively in YSOs, HII regions, and starburst galaxies. Additionally, the position of IRAS 04530-6916 in color-color and color-magnitude diagrams is (much) more consistent with it being a young object. IRAS 04530-6916 is most likely a massive YSO, rather than being on the AGB.
