Photometric observations of the Algol-type eclipsing binary system BO Her (HD 336759) have led to the discovery that the primary star is a delta Scuti variable. Multifilter photometry of BO Her was carried out over ten nights during June and July, 2007, at the Truman State University Observatory using a 0.20-m Meade LX200GPS telescope and SBIG ST-7XME and ST-402ME CCD cameras. The primary component of the BO Her system pulsates in a single mode with a period of 1.7871 hours and with amplitudes of approximately 0.12 in B, 0.08 in V, and 0.05 in I.
We have initiated a long-term project to search for additional semi-detached binary systems with pulsating components by observing binary systems with at least one component that lies in the Cepheid instability strip (Soydugan, et al., 2007 MNRAS, 370, 2013). Results from this ongoing survey will also be reported.
This research was supported by the National Science Foundation under Grant No. 0431664.
