We present an overview of the SPACE mission proposal submitted to ESA in response to the call for the first planning cycle of the Cosmic Vision 2015-2025 program. SPACE will perform the first all-sky spectroscopic survey of the Universe, taking R 400 spectra between 0.6 and 1.8micron of more than half a billion galaxies down to AB 23 with SNR=5 per resolution element. SPACE achieves its remarkable sensitivity, sky and wavelength coverage by performing multi-slit near-IR spectroscopy in outer space and in slit mode, thanks to the use of the current generation of MEMS devices. By precisely (Dz 0.001) locating hundreds of million of galaxies in space, SPACE will observe Baryonic Acoustic Oscillations pattern in the Universe between 5 and 10 billion years ago, improving the figure of merit for knowledge of dark matter by more than an order of magnitude (0.5% per redshift bin).
