The Taurus molecular cloud is a prototypical low-mass star formation region with a loosely spread stellar population (1-10; star/pc3) extending over 100 square degrees. Deep optical photometry of such a large star formation region is a fundamental first step to study its YSO population. We have obtained deep optical images and photometry in the I and Z bands using two large cameras on the CFH Telescope from 1999 to 2004, covering a total of 40 sq deg., including high and low stellardensity regions. We will present our full optical catalog and make it available on line for the community. We will discuss global statistics, completeness limit, photometry and astrometry accuracy as well as some parameters designed to characterize the morphology of the sources. We will present a new web tool designed to retrieve, sort and select sources using various criteria. We will show how our CFHT data can be useful to 1) Study stellar parameters of young low mass stars and brown dwarfs from the optical to the far infrared. 2) Wipe out background galaxies from the Spitzer catalog 3) Study the
morphology of regions around class I or class II objects using multi-wavelength images (from i' to 160 microns). Finally, we will discuss an example of the combination of CFHT and Spitzer data to study disks around brown dwarfs.
