The Taurus-Auriga molecular clouds have long served as one of the most important testing grounds for our understanding of star formation, even though they are not representative of the most active regions. A long-standing challenge in studying Taurus is its large angular extent on the sky; observational developments have made the large-scale surveys discussed in this session possible. I will briefly review some important questions in star formation theory for which Taurus might provide particularly clear tests.
