Planetary Nebulae, Photometry

Scientific paper

Photoelectric observations of emission lines in thirteen planetary nebulae and of the continuum near the Balmer discontinuity for three of these are presented. The obervations were made with the scanner designed by Wampler, at the Crossley and the 120-inch telescopes of Lick Observatory. The absolute flux at H_β for nine of these objects is determined. From the observed Balmer decrement and the normal extinction law the total absorption at H_β is obtained for all the objects. An independent determination of the reddening is obtained by comparing the H_β flux with the radio emission in five of the brightest planetary nebulae. No deviations from the normal reddening law are detected in the direction of these objects.
