Frebel et al. (2006, ApJ 652, 1585) presented the results of a medium-resolution spectroscopic follow-up for a sample of over 1700 bright (10 < B < 14) metal-poor candidates selected from the Hamburg/ESO objective-prism survey. The published work was only able to report estimates of [Fe/H] for stars likely to have [Fe/H] < -1.0, using on a previous calibration of [Fe/H] based on the CaII K line, and estimated broadband colors. Estimates of [C/Fe] were obtained by application of the Rossi et al. (2005, AJ 130, 2804) calibration based on CaII K and 2MASS J-K colors.
We now are able to extract estimates of the stellar atmospheric parameters (Teff, log g, [Fe/H]) for these stars, making use of the SEGUE Stellar Parameter Pipeline (SSPP) described by Lee et al. (2007, AJ, submitted). In addition, we have explored our ability to improve estimates of [C/Fe] through a set of automated spectral matching procedures developed for the next release of the SSPP. The SSPP is able to obtain resonably accurate estimates of the atmospheric parameters for the stars in the Frebel et al. sample over a wide range of temperature, surface gravity, and metallicity.
We report on a preliminary analysis of the kinematics of the Frebel et al. sample, based on distances and radial velocities provided by the SSPP, in
combination with proper motions obtained from a variety of sources.
