From new optical and infrared observations of the Trapezium-like system CPD -62°1837, the authors show that the faintest star (C), of spectral type M3 III, is not physically associated with the other two. Stars A and B are at the same distance and have the same radial velocities to within the errors of measurement. One of these stars (B) is a Mira variable with a period of 320 days.
