The careful description of the solar eclipse of A.D. 1567 by Clavius is
used to derive limits to the Earth's rotational clock error ({DELTA}T)
of between 145 and 165 sec at this date. This result provides an
important link between the {DELTA}T curve as deduced from ancient and
medieval eclipse observations and that obtained from telescopic data.
