Results of a detailed analysis of the temporal behavior of the X-ray source 2S 0614+091, which belongs to the class of galactic X-ray sources with properties similar to Sco X-1, are presented. Observations were made with the Sky Survey Instrument on board Ariel V between November 1974 and February 1980, and reveal a significant variability in X-ray flux. Analysis of selected data sets of sufficient duration and sensitivity indicates the presence of an approximately 5.2-day periodicity, consistent with the short periods of many known luminous X-ray sources. Possible mechanisms for the periodicity include orbital motion in a close binary system, although mass transfer in such a system cannot occur by Roche lobe overflow, and the precession of an accretion disk around the X-ray star. If 2S 0614+091 is confirmed to be an X-ray burster, the present results would support the belief that X-ray bursters occur in close binary systems.
