It is noted after consideration of the short wavelength normal modes of self-gravitating rotating polytropic disks in the Bardeen approximation that disk oscillations may be characterized in terms of p-modes, driven by pressure forces, and r-modes, driven by Coriolis forces. Coupling takes place as a result of differential rotation between the two, yielding mixed modes whose properties can be studied under the assumption of weak coupling. It is noted that mixed modes avoid the crossing of the p- and r-modes. Short wavelength analysis offers a basis for mode classification using phase diagram characteristics. Physical properties and qualitative features of these modes are revealed by the analysis presented.
