The incoherent scatter method was used to measure the electron density
in the trough between the E and F layers in the midlatitude ionosphere;
measurements were carried out in 1971 in the Eastern Hemisphere under
moderate solar activity during an equinox. Electron density profiles are
presented, and the accuracy of the results is assessed.
