The balance of energy and momentum is discussed in detail for stationary solutions of coronal loops. The general case of loops in gravity fields, including mass motions and different shapes of energy deposition, is developed, and a set of dimensionless variables is introduced to discuss the main properties of the model from the point of view of the temperature dependence of the conductive flux, of the temperature and pressure profiles, and of the generation of differential emission measure functions.
