The effects of higher order resonances in the corotation region are investigated. An infinite number of resonant families of simple periodic orbits closing after one revolution around the center is found, which branches off the family of circular periodic orbits x1 in the axisymmetric case. An infinite number of resonant families of long periodic orbits around L4 and L5 is also found with orbits which can be explained by a nonlinear theory based on a resonant second integral of motion. Most orbits form closed invariant curves around the generally stable invariant points x1 in the weak bar case, although in stronger bars, most periodic orbits near corotation are unstable. Most nonperiodic orbits are stochastic due to interactions between the various resonances, and because nonperiodic orbits extend to large distances outside corotation and leave the region depopulated up to the outer Lindblad resonance, bars stronger than 10% of the axisymmetric background terminate near corotation.
