The objective of the UV-photometry experiment on the Venera-13, 14 probes was to investigate the UV radiation field in the Venus atmosphere at heights of 48-62 km. It is shown that the major part (about 90 percent) of the UV radiation is absorbed at heights above 60 km; the remaining part is almost wholly absorbed in the 48-60-km region. Three regions of absorption were found at 48-62 km. Absorption was slight in the intermediate region, while the nature of the absorber in the upper region (above 58 km) was different from that in the lower region (below 55 km). In the lower region, corresponding to the middle and lower cloud layers, the absorber is probably a gas (probably sulfur dioxide); while in the upper region, corresponding to the upper cloud layer, the absorber is probably an aerosol. A significant inhomogeneity of the cloud layer is observed above 60 km.
