The radio detector of the bright supernova remnant in NGC 4449 using the European VLBI network at 21 cm wavelength is reported. The results of an attempt to constrain the age via measurement of the source angular size is discussed. From the limit to the angular size derived from this measurement, an age for the source of less than 200 yr is derived using the known optical expansion velocity. Further observations using the WSRT that confirm the decline of the radio flux density suggested by the data presented in de Bruyn et al. (1981) are reported. Optical and radio data for an object in the galaxy NGC 4656 are presented, and it is suggested that this object is a much younger and more luminous remnant of the Crab Nebula type. However, its optical and radio luminosity would then be an extraordinary 150 times that of the Crab Nebula.
