The present work examines the possibilities offered by the Danjon astrolabe in the observation of the position of the Galilean satellites of Jupiter. This instrument has already been used successfully in the observation of Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Uranus. A strategy is outlined for making a series of observations of the Galilean satellites which could furnish an important contribution to the determination of the orbits of these satellites and of Jupiter itself.
