Black Hole, Tidal Interaction
Scientific paper
We numerically simulate the passage of a star near a black hole. Most passages end up with a slight tidal distortion, except for those resulting in the partial capture of the star by the black hole. Since the partial capture will usually occur on a time scale much faster than the dinamic time scale of the star, it will very likely strip the star of its envelope and expose the hot interior to the far observer. The phenomenon occurs in the immediate vicinity of the black hole, so that the light is strongly beamed in a short and extremely intense burst. The light is rapidly shifted in frequency both due to the Doppler and gravitational effects.
