After the successful implementation in the past decades of excellent angular resolution like X-ray optics like Rosat and Chandra and high throughput optics with good or fair angular resolution like XMM, Swift, SAX and Suzaku the present decade requires a technology effort to accomplish new performance goals, related to the scientific cases to be investigated. In particular, for large mission like Athena under study by ESA it is necessary to implement a optics with al large increase in effective area wrt XMM (up to a facor 5), improving also the angular resolution, while it is compelling the implementation of optics with a large field of view and enhanced imaging capabilities like e-Rosita and, afterwards, WFXT. Finally, high throughput optics based on multilayer 'supermirror' coatings like those that will be launched with Nustar will finally enable the study the hard X- ray (10-80 keV) sky with unprecedented angular resolution and sensitivity. In this paper we will review the requirements, configurations and the technologies related to the X-ray optics implementation for the present decade missions
