As Galileo's spectrometers scanned across the Io plasma torus in June 1996, four other orbital and groundbased telescopes simultaneously observed the torus. The Hubble Space Telescope obtained UV spectra on both ansa of the torus, and the EUVE satellite collected spectral images at EUV wavelengths. The Lick Observatory Coude Auxiliary Telescope took long-slit spectra of the torus, and Mt. Wilson gathered optical images. With the Galileo EUV and UVS spectra, this represents the largest simultaneous Io torus dataset to date. We will present preliminary results from two of those programs and compare them with Galileo and the other datasets. HST/GHRS spectra show dawn/dusk, radial and/or longitudinal variations in emissions from S(+) (1256 Angstroms), S(++) (1194 Angstroms) and S(+++) (1405 Angstroms). The Mt. Wilson images suffer from high scattered light, but do show longitudinal intensity variations in S(+) (6731 Angstroms). The multispectral nature of the combined dataset will allow a better determination of the cause of longitudinal and dawn/dusk brightness asymmteries, and may shed light on the torus `energy crisis'. This work has been supported by NASA's Planetary Atmospheres and Planetary Astronomy programs, grant GO-06027.01.94A from STScI, and NSF's PYI program.
