The star Boss 497 (alpha = 2h 06m.6, delta = 29 deg 50') is a visual double of 3".5 separation with components relatively fixed and having a common proper motion of 0".10. The brighter star of the pair is about 5.5m and of type Go while the fainter is about 6.7m and of type F2. Both stars have been found to be spectroscopic binaries with the further interesting feature that in each case the spectrum of each component is recorded. Both orbits are nearly circular, the Go star having a period of 14.732 days and the F2 star one of 2.2365 days. The range in velocity for the former is none too great for satisfactory separation of its double lines with a single prism but a fairly reliable orbit is obtained. There is a good range in velocity for the F2-type star but the results depend almost entirely upon the stronger component spectrum. Estimates of the absolute magnitudes of each are made from their spectra and a preliminary value of the parallax for the pair is given as 0".03.
