The Planetary Camera of the Hubble Space Telescope was used to obtain 78 images of asteroid 4 Vesta at six rotational epochs on 6 May 1996, when the apparent diameter was 0.61 arcseconds and the aspect was nearly equatorial. Filters were used to isolate bandpasses at 0.439, 0.673, 0.791, 0.953, and 1.042 microns. The images show spectacular morphological features near the south pole of Vesta. We also expect to present a multispectral map of Vesta and improved values for its shape, dimensions, and pole orientation. This work is based on observations with the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope obtained at the Space Telescope Science Institute, which is operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc., under NASA contract NAS5-26555. This work was supported by STScI Grant GO-6481. Raw (left) and restored (right) images of 4 Vesta. F439W (``B'') filter, 1.2s exp, made on 6 May 1996 at 16:37 UT. The sunward direction is nearly due North, which is down and to the left in these images.
