We are currently studying the scattering properties of Neptune's 1989 Great Dark Spot (GDS) and Bright Companion (BC), as well as ``unperturbed'' areas at 20-25° S to determine the average vertical structure of Neptune's atmosphere at this latitude, and to determine how the vertical structure of the two albedo features differs from that of the surrounding atmosphere. We are modeling the limb darkening curves of both features in most of the Voyager filters as well as their integrated brightness in 890 nm observations made from Mauna Kea. We will present our findings on the altitude, optical depth, and single scattering albedos of the clouds and hazes responsible for the appearance of the GDS and BC in visible light, as well as estimates of the mean altitude and scattering properties of the methane cloud layer at low southern latitudes. This is an important step toward determining the viability of such albedo features as sources of the observed excess of stratospheric methane, and establishing their long-term effect on the planetary bolometric albedo.
