The immersion occultation of SAO 187526 by Europa on 28 June 1996 was successfully observed at H-band on the Steward Observatory at Kitt Peak 90-inch. Because of high air mass, guiding was difficult and the source drifted out of the 128 by 24 array before emersion. However, an abrupt immersion event was observed at 11:24:03 UT. The relative signal drop at this wavelength was about 50 percent. The sampling interval was 0.31 s, corresponding to a spatial scale of about 5 km per data point. We will discuss the behavior of the signal just prior to occultation and use the results to place limits on a possible Europa atmosphere.
