The visible distribution of galaxies in the sky is modeled, taking account of both their spatial clustering and the effects of nonuniform light absorption in the Galaxy. The relative fluctuation of the numbers of galaxies n and n' in area elements separated by θ is defined by the expression s^bar^theta_ = (n - n')^2^/(n + n' + 0.01). The dependence of the quantity s^bar^theta_ on the angle θ for θ > 1.50 in the Lick Observatory counts for Galactic latitude |b} > 600 may be explained only as the effect of nonuniform interstellar absorption.
