Density waves (DWs) are considered in view of the gravitational instability of the expanding universe. An analysis of Jeans mass variations due to the evolution of the universe yields the preferred DWs just before recombination, i.e., those with characteristic mass near the Jeans mass. This relation can be used to determine the wavelength of the DWs. The results suggest that a series of maxima should appear in the Z-distribution of the objects formed in the background with the DWs, and that the condition obtained can be used to calculate the redshift value corresponding to each maximum. For the specific cosmic model with microwave temperature of 2.7 K, Hubble's constant of 80 km/sec per Mpc and hydrogen density of 3.5 x 10 to the -31st g/cu cm, the wavelength of the preferred DWs is estimated to be about 0.516 Mpc just before the recombination. A maximum Z value in the 0.05-0.14 range is expected in the Z distribution of galaxies with some definite characteristics.
