The integration of the Einstein-Maxwell equations for a spherically symmetric distribution of collapsing charged matter, is accomplished. Comparison with a neutral corresponding solution allows us to analyse the effect of electric charge on the evolution of the sphere. The solution is matched across the boundary of the distribution to the exterior radiating Vaydia-Reissner-Nordstrom spacetime. It is shown that the presence of the electric charge delays the contraction of the sphere.
